Plantar Plate Rupture

At the side of the plantar fascia closest to the toes, is the plantar plate, a band of tendon on the bottom of the joint between the bones of the foot and the bones of the toes. When this ruptures, it is less of an obvious injury compared to other ligament and tendon injuries of the lower extremity. You will feel some pain in the forefoot and the sensation of bruising at first. Over time, the pain will become more intense, and the ball of the affected foot will gradually shift outwards into a formation similar to a classic hammer toe.
